Write a paragraph to describe why Cinderella Skeleton is a fairy tale. What elements of a fairy tale does it have? Make sure to include all parts of a hamburger paragraph.

Thursday, January 29, 2009       Written Response- fairy tales

Choose one of the fairy tales I have read. Describe why it is a fairy tale. What elements make it a fairy tale. Make sure you include evidence from the fairy tale to support your thinking.

In other words, don't just say the story includes magic. Tell what the magic was.

Monday, Nov. 16- Please read my comments about your setting paragraph. Then answer my question. Hopefully, you will be able to write comments to others tomorrow.

Nov. 12/13, you'll enter your response on your own page. Please respond to the following question:

Describe the setting of the book you are reading. Be specific about how you know it is the setting by using evidence from the book. An esample of a setting paragraph for Clementine's setting is-

EXAMPLE of setting-The book, Clementine, takes place in an apartment building with many floors. It has an elevator for Clementine to ride up and down in. Her apartment is on the basement level and she has a friend living several floors above her. She even tries to help the painters on one of the floors, without any success. The other place the story takes place in is Clementine's school, both in her classroom and the principal's office. She has several conversations with the principal throughout the book. I believe that the book takes place in the present time period because all of the events could happen in 2008. Kids like Clementine try to help their friends, but sometimes get in huge trouble instead. People live in apartment buildings like this in big cities.

If this story took place in Duxbury or Waterbury, it wouldn't change much. The apartment building would be much smaller and wouldn't have an elevator. Clementine could still get in as much trouble in her life. She could still come up with brilliant ideas to help, but if they are still as crazy, she would still get sent to the principal. One difference is that she would have to ride to school on a school bus. It would be interesting to write about some of the trouble she can get into on the bus.

After previewing your new book, what do you think the book will be about? What do you already know from looking at the book and your own reading experiences? Tuesday, you will respond to a classmate about the same book.

OLDER Response - What kind of person was Henry from the book,  Henry's Freedom Box? Use evidence from the text to support your response.
